2004 San Diego Design Awards, 2005 International Awards of Excellence winner

The original pool was an older Grecian style surrounded by formal gardens. The homeowners wanted to add a spa but preserve the length of the swim lane.

We designed the spa to reflect the curved ends of the pool, and created another semicircle opposite the spa to accomodate the steps. The design not only provided symmetry to the pool, but created a longer swim lane for the client. Positioning the steps toward the house created an inviting transition from house to pool. Situating the spa on the side opposite the house created a focal point with the gardens as a backdrop. The raised spa has a single spillway, enhancing the atmosphere of the garden with the gentle sound of running water. A large bench, built into the pool in front of the spa, offers a garden view. The pool and spa were finished in a black pearl Pebble Tec and tiled with a Tuscan tile with Deco tiles at each corner. The coping was replaced with reefstone. The decking was replaced with sod, bringing the atmosphere of the garden right to the edge of the pool. New equipment included Sta-Rite filter, pumps, and cleaner, a RayPac heater, Fiberstar fiber optic lighting, a Jandy AquaLink RS System for pool and spa automation, and a Pentair chlorinator.

This pool was featured in Luxury Homes, and in the October 2005 Expo edition of Pool & Spa News with a step-by-step guide on "How Did They Do That." The pool was nominated for the Pool and Spa Expo's "Most Extreme Transformation"- an award associated with ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".
